Video Conferencing on Campus

Horizontal Rule [SEPT 96]

Sandie Hui

Desktop video conferencing finally arrived at CityU in June 96. With this new service, you can now talk face-to-face with your ally miles apart. The participants can hear each other and share live, motion video images of each other. Its applications are diversified. To name a few, it is ideal for running conferences/seminars in various locations either within campus or across local/overseas institutions. It provides a means for collaboration among project team members, students or researchers who are far apart. Staff who are out of town or tied up with their work in offices can attend meetings via video conferencing. Overseas interviews can be arranged for University students without the need to travel abroad, thus saving time and money.

To use this service, all you need is a network point in your office. Video conferencing system is also set up in Room Neptune in CSC if better quality is required. Other than the professional audio and video equipment, the room is also equipped with an 128Kbps ISDN line for off-campus conferencing. For details on the booking procedures and charging scheme, please refer to the CSC leaflet " Video Conferencing in City University" obtainable from the CSC General Office.
