Campus Network Upgrade

The pilot scheme implemented in CSC and the AP department was completed. Useful results were gathered and the CSC now proceeds to Phase I by upgrading the backbone of the entire campus network. It is anticipated that the fibre backbone will be completed in 4 months' time. This is then followed by the upgrade of all department LANs. The campus network upgrade will involve the following components:

• a Fibre Distributed Data Interface (FDDI) backbone switch
• switching hubs with virtual LAN capability
• structured Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) wiring
