Temporary Work Disks for OpenVMS Users (AXP,AXP1,AXP2,VAX4)

Horizontal Rule [JUN 96]

Joseph Ho

For OpenVMS users, we now have two 2.1GB work disks, with logical names work$1 and work$2 respectively, on the Alpha Cluster for storing temporary files. To make use of these two work disks, you may follow the procedure below:

$ creatework diskname username

where "diskname" is either work$1 or work$2

and "username" is your OpenVMS account username

If successful, the above command will create a directory "username" under the disk "diskname". Now you can set default to the work disk directory by typing:

$ set default diskname:[username]

To delete your work disk directory tree, type the following:

$ deletework diskname username

Since these two disks are for temporary storage only, we will not perform any backup and we are not responsible for any data loss. Furthermore, users may experience a "disk full" message if too many undeleted files reside on the disks. So,

directories after use in order to
free up space for the others.
