Orientation Talk for New Senior Staff

 

To help new staff familiarize with the university environment, the Computing Services Centre (CSC) participated in the Staff Induction Programme's Exhibition held in the covered terrace during 15 - 25 September 95. If you had visited our booth, you would have found that it gave an overview of our Centre's structure, facilities and services. Also, you would have noticed that it was presented in a most impressive way and much of the credit should indeed be given to our Hard Copy Centre.

Along the same line, we also organized a 2-hour Orientation Talk on 14 September and 19 October in Room Neptune inside the CSC terminal area to provide new staff with more comprehensive information about our Centre's facilities and services. While the talk on 14 September was originally planned, the second talk was an encore in response to the requests from those who had missed the first one.

Both sessions of the talk included a multimedia presentation about the Centre, a demonstration on the campus network and the available information services, and a Q & A session. Under a friendly and informal atmosphere, the participants actively asked questions about our services and the procedures to obtain them. Among the 76 new senior staff we had in CityU, counting from September last year, some thirty of them turned up in the first talk and around ten in the second one. Though the rate does not appear to be a great percentage, bearing in mind that quite a number of the invited guests may have already been with us for almost a year, we are very much cheered on by this result.

With such positive feedback, we plan to organize similar activities in the coming years.
