Be a Good CityU Individual!

During the months from February to April, we have broadcasted
through different channels to make everyone aware of the software
and copyright law. May we take this opportunity to remind you
again by listing down the rules that one should follow in order
to avoid committing any computer thefts. If you wish to make our
university a crime-free and a better place to work, please note
the following:
- Always use original, licensed software.
- One license should be purchased for each software copy installed
on your hard disk
- For use on the network, your department should have one software
license for each workstation using the software concurrently.
- You are violating copyright when you're downloading software
from the University network's central server onto your own hard
disk.
- The software on the University's central library menu should
only serve :
- As a backup system for licensed software. If your department's
system goes down, you can use the backup system to continue your
work while maintenance continues.
- As a means for testing and evaluating software before procuring
copies for teaching or installing onto the departmental LANs.
- Report and pay for the use of software of which the University
has obtained a site license agreement. The Computing Services
Centre has entered site license agreements for the following software:
- SUN Operating System & Software
- DEC Software License Grant
- Harvard Graphics
- PC/SAS
- SPSS PC+
- Microsoft system and application products
- WordPerfect
- For more information, please contact our Jessica Chong at
extension 8230.
- Penalties for violating software copyright law by means of
release, reproduction, revision, translation, distribution or
publication are up to 2 years imprisonment and HK$50,000 per offense.
To protect yourself and your department from inferior products
and services, please comply!!
