Central Software License

 

As regards to software, a set of common Windows software will be centrally acquired and maintained by the Computing Services Centre for economy of scale and in compliance with the copyright law. The initial set is listed below and was drawn up based on the past usage statistics. It will be reviewed annually and maintained centrally.

1. MS-DOS
2. MS-Windows (English & Chinese)
3. Lotus for Windows
4. WordPerfect for Windows (English & Chinese)
5. FoxPro for Windows
6. MS-Office (English & Chinese)
7. AntiVirus
8. Ex-Tran

The above list of software will be made available on the network and be used only on the network. Under this new network license arrangement, all staff users on the campus network will be covered and hence there is no need for departments to acquire or update them. However should a user decide to copy the software (apart from MS-DOS) to the hard disk on his/her PC, he/she would need to arrange the acquisition of the appropriate license since the license would no longer be sharable. For software other than those on the list, users must acquire the appropriate license first.
