Local Windows with Built-in Network Services

Horizontal Rule Issue Date
Raymond Poon

Up to now, only MS-Windows invoked from network can access CTNET services while local copies of MS-Windows invoked from staff's hard disk cannot. Also, Windows and Windows application packages run on local hard disks cannot be upgraded through network.

Staff soon can download or upgrade Windows and its application packages from network to their local hard disks. The downloaded version of MS-Windows will have all CTNET services built-in. This means that users can invoke their Windows application packages locally with all the network services readily available. The facility also allows users, as needed, to selectively upgrade individual Windows application packages from network.

This service will be introduced in September. Staff using these facilities are expected to be well versed in Windows and be self supported.
