A New Procedure for Booking Seminar Rooms in CSC

 

To better utilize the precious computer resources, a new procedure for booking CSC Seminar Rooms was proposed and approved by the Computing Services Centre Management Committee (CSCMC) during the sixth meeting on 28 February 1995. According to this procedure, all departments are required to submit their booking requests for a new semester to the Computing Services Centre before the Management Information Office (MIO) starts the time-tabling process. After collecting such requests, CSC will prepare a preliminary time-table for the Seminar Rooms and then pass it to the MIO for reference in compiling the University's time-table.

CSC will notify departments about the deadline and information required for the submission of booking requests for a new semester. After the deadline, subsequent booking requests related to module teaching in that particular semester will not be processed until MIO announces the final time-table. During the period between submission of booking request and the announcement of the final time-table, CSC will temporarily suspend the on-line terminal booking system from the campus network. The system will be restored immediately to allow free booking after the final time-table has been settled.

The CSCMC also approved a penalty scheme to charge, at the standard rental rate, on those departments that did not use the booked rooms. The standard hourly charge is currently HK$40/PC and HK$60/SUN SPARCstation. Should departments want to cancel their room bookings, they can use the Class Booking System to perform on-line cancellations. Alternatively, they can inform CSC through email to the address CCSSTECH, at least two working days before use. Otherwise, they will be penalised if they do not show up. If the booked rooms are simply for lecturing purposes without actually using the workstations, warnings will be given and future bookings of the module might be disallowed.
