[Hand Icon]Welcome readers! How time flies! It's been almost a year since we announced the re-birth of Network Computing. During the course of developing the previous three issues, we have learnt that the making of a newsletter is not an easy task. From topic selection to the final compilation of the newsletter requires a lot of team effort and cooperation from other staff within our centre. Luckily, we have had tremendous support from our centre to make this newsletter come true. Regrettably, we did not receive any outside comments or suggestions regarding the content and our approach. This year, we sincerely hope that we could obtain comments from all of you. We believe that this is the only way that we can improve the quality of this newsletter. Furthermore, if you wish to incorporate articles of particular computer topics in our newsletter, you are most welcome to submit the scripts to our email address, ccnetcom@cityu.edu.hk.

As it is the beginning of a new academic year, we shall start afresh with this issue by giving you an outlook of the centre by Mr. K.H. Poon, Director of Computing Services, followed by a description of our newly formed group, the Technology and Planning Section. Then you'll be amazed to find out from the "What's New?" column that throughout this academic year and years ahead, a number of upgrades and new services are lined up to serve all of you. For those who are new to CityU, you will discover that the section on "Presentation" and the one on "Talks, Seminars & Workshops" particularly useful. If you want to know the answers to some of the frequently asked questions, the section on "Troubleshooting Tips" is the right one for you. Now, no matter who you are or where you are, you will have access to this newsletter through the Internet W3 address, http://www.cityu.edu.hk/csc/netcomp/. This is definitely an exciting year for all of us!

More goodies are yet to come. Simply subscribe our newsletter through your department or turn on your computer and access our Internet address to read about all the wonderful things of Network Computing.
