New E-Mail Addresses for General Grade and Minor Staff

 

To systematise staff Electronic Mail addresses, new accounts for all General Grade and Minor Staff were created on the CityU VAX host computer system. As scheduled, on 15 December 1994 all new accounts were ready for use. This account replaces the PolyLink account, and users were given three months to inform external contacts about the change. During that time, the system will automatically forward mail received at the old address.

In addition to sending mail using PolyLink, the new accounts enable users to choose Pathworks Mail or VAX Mail. With the latter, as long as a user stays within the computer budget and disk space quota, all mail will remain in the mail box unless deliberately deleted, while PolyLink mail will be automatically purged after a defined number of days.

The VAX account not only is an E-Mail account but also acts as the unique identifier for accessing other services such as Personal Data Enquiry, CityFax, and more. For security, users should always keep their password secret.
