To be in line with the freezing of DOS and Windows 3.11 environments, and to be y2k compliant, the CSC, after months of detailed study and evaluation, has successfully launched the KEA! 420 terminal emulator. It replaces the old DOS-based PC-240 emulator for connecting to the CityU host-based services with the operations of each system remain unchanged.

The KEA! 420 for Windows 95 and Windows NT is a windows-based terminal emulation software which emulates all features of Digital VT300/VT400 series graphics terminals and supports a variety of communication types including Telnet using TCP/IP. It also supports Chinese display and input under Chinese Windows 95, or English Windows 95 with the RichWin Chinese software pre-loaded. Except for the dial-up facility, which will be ready by next academic year, all host-based applications such as PolyLink, Quick Staff Channel, Library Catalogue (INNOPAC), Terminal Booking, Yellow Pages, Labinfo, etc. are modified with the KEA! 420, and this new terminal emulator has already been installed on the CSC Student LAN, Staff LAN as well as all Express Terminals.termial_emulator.GIF (1629 bytes)

By the start of the coming academic year, all such applications will be y2k-ready to welcome the dawn of the new millennium.
