As you walk past Room Earth in the CSC Student Terminal Area, you may notice that the teaching studio has been completely restructured. The newly designed computer desks and printer tables are now in place to accommodate the 17" monitors and printers so that students can have a clear view to the instructor as well as the computer projection screen. The U-shaped arrangement serves the purpose of facilitating discussion and meeting. Apart from Room Earth, 17" monitors have been installed in Rooms Izar and Mars as well.

Room Orion has also been modified to include two consultation tables. A dedicated demonstration PC is connected to the video projector to project the computer output to the large screen. As such, not only can the room be used as the Web developer's laboratory, but also for consultation and demonstration purposes. Scheduled consultation and demonstration sessions are normally posted on the notice board outside that room for reference. If desired, lecturers can reserve the room for student project presentation.

As you may already know, MS Windows 98 has many enhanced features over its predecessor, MS Windows 95. Since the launch of MS Windows 98 in late 1998, we have investigated the operating system and technical issues related to its implementation in the University. We are now ready to launch MS Windows 98 in Rooms Fortuna, Gemma and Homan of the CSC Student Terminal Area for a trial run. Under the MS Windows 98 environment, we have installed MS Office 97, Netscape, Information Services and some other applications. When students turn on the PCs in these rooms, MS Windows 98 will be displayed along with other operating systems for their selection. After this trial run, we will implement the Windows 98 operating system in some other areas.
