Another Step Further - IT Upgrade of 4/F Classrooms

Horizontal Rule [Dec 98]

Noel Laam

After the large scale computerisation of lecture theatres, with the special funding from the President, all 24 classrooms on 4/F were upgraded this summer with the following facilities:
  • A Pentium II 333 MHz computer, connected to the campus network.
  • A full-set of AV equipment including audiocassette recorder, videocassette recorder, LD/VCD/CD player etc.
  • LCD/Barcographics projectors.
  • Console/floor microphone (in 80-seat rooms).

From now on, colleagues no longer need to carry their own computers to the classes, but can simply use the IT facilities available in the classrooms to aid their teaching, conduct computer presentation or software demonstration, access the data network and even use the videoconferencing/video-on-demand facilities soon.

If resources allow, we will pursue to put in similar facilities in all other classrooms to improve our teaching environment. Colleagues interested in using the facilities may go to the FMO Audio Visual Service Counter/Demonstration Counter on 4/F for practice.
