Student Computer Literacy Programme - A Big Success

Horizontal Rule [Sep 98]

Yeung Man

Last year was a big success for the Student Computer Literacy programme provided by the Computing Services Centre. The number of enrolled students to the programme increased from 3,738 in 1996/97 to 11,537 in 1997/98 - an increase of more than 200%. To cope with the increasing demand of the programme, there were training classes on every weekday's evening and two extra training sessions on Saturdays. At the same time, two new courses ("Chinese Input Method - Chang Jie" and "Design Your Internet Home Page - MS FrontPage" were added to our computer literacy programme and were well received by the students.

From time to time, our Computer Literacy Programme for first-year students not only attracts newcomers, there are also numerous requests from continuing students that they want to join our literacy programme. As we always revise our course content and introduce some new courses regularly, existing students also hope to attend our courses to update their computer knowledge. Starting from Semester B 1997/98, continuing students were allowed to attend our literacy programme though priority is given to first-year new students.

To continue our big success, we need your input by sharing with us your valuable suggestions about the literacy programme. Furthermore, special courses can be arranged upon request. Group registration is highly recommended. In fact, we strongly encourage departments to schedule these courses on behalf of their students. For more information, please enquire our Education and Training Team at ext. 8114.
