Lecture Theatre Computer Upgrade

Horizontal Rule [Mar 98]

Joe Chow

Using computers for presentations in our lecture theatres demands computers with a very short start up time and an excellent display. With the recent installation of advance computer equipment in all 18 lecture theatres, lecturers are now more inclined to use these computer facilities for their presentations as well as demonstrations. The computers in all the lecture theatres have been upgraded with:

The new reborn card enables different operating systems to co-exist in a single computer. It is therefore possible to allow systems like English and Chinese Windows 95 to co-exist on the same computer in each lecture theatre. Furthermore, the time required to start every "new" Windows 95 is just a little-bit more than a minute.

As more and more software demand an increase in computer power, the upgrade of the lecture theatre computer will continue from time to time.

To make lecturers familiar with the new set-up, demonstration workshops were arranged during the days of 10th and 19th February. Furthermore, a lecture theatre help desk on Level 4, situated near the student canteen, will be established. This help desk is administered and organized by the Campus Services (CAS) to help lecturers on all matters relating to the usage on the lecture theatre equipment. The help desk is manned by several student helpers at all times during the regular time-table period (8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.).

All users are welcome to forward suggestions to cc@plink.cityu.edu.hk. For enquiries regarding the computer equipment, please contact the CSC Help Desk at ext. 7658.
