To go in-line with the University’s aim for a paperless campus, the Computing Services Centre (CSC) is pleased to announce the web-based Computer Account Application Form on 5 March 98.

For newly arrived staff who would like to use electronic mail, the campus network or the mainframe computers for teaching, research or administrative work – a computer account is what they need first.

The web-based Computer Account Application Form can be found by clicking the "Administrative Services" option on the University’s Intranet at http://www.cityu.edu.hk/cityu/intranet.htm. If you are not familiar with the University’s Intranet, please follow the steps at the end of this article to invoke the form.

Your first account application comes with electronic mail plus accounts for many other facilities, such as accounts for accessing the staff and student networks; PolyLink; the University’s Intranet; personal web page and remote dial-up via the CityLink or CityLink Plus services. To invoke this web form, new staff will need assistance from their General Office colleague who knows the username and password of the departmental PolyLink account.

For subsequent account applications or for existing staff who already have a computer account and need additional accounts, they can access the form with their existing personal email account username and password. However, the "Secondary Computer Account Application for Staff" option should be selected instead.

Steps for accessing the Electronic Computer Account Application Form

  1. Run the Netscape browser on the Departmental Applications Menu.
  2. Click the "CityU Intranet" link on CityU Home Page to enter CityU Intranet Web page.
  3. Select the "Administrative Services" option.
  4. Click the "Yes" box on the right hand side of the screen.
  5. If you are applying for your first computer account from the CSC, please follow the steps below, otherwise jump to step 6.
    1. A dialog box appears as you are about to enter the Staff Only Web page. Your GO colleague assisting you should enter his/her personal email account username followed by a password (his/her staff ID number or the personal email account initial password if not changed).
    2. Upon successful login, click the "Computer Account Application" link.
    3. Select the "Computer Account Application for Staff" option.
    4. A pop-up window appears. Your General Office colleague should enter the account username and password of your departmental PolyLink account.
    5. After the validation, your colleague will be asked to identify himself/herself.
    6. Once the above login procedure is over, an electronic form will be shown which enables you to fill in your account application details.
  6. If you are applying for an additional computer account, please follow the steps below:
  1. A dialog box appears as you are about to enter the Staff Only Web page. You should enter your personal email account username followed by a password (your staff ID number or the personal email account initial password if not changed).
  2. Upon successful login, click the "Computer Account Application" link.
  3. Select the "Secondary Computer Account Application for Staff" option.
  4. A pop-up window appears. You should enter your personal email account username and password.
  5. After the validation, an electronic form will be shown which enables you to fill in your account application details.
