Which email address would you prefer? Candy.Tong@cityu.edu.hk or poctong@cityu.edu.hk? No doubt the first one is more personal and easier for your friends to remember.
This is to re-announce the "Personal Email Alias Registration" service our Centre launched in early December last year. Since then, hundreds of staff had used this service to associate their email account name to a name of their choice. Your choice of name can be as long as 20 characters that can be your full name, initials, nickname, etc. Besides, having an easy-to-remember email address also provides flexibility should you change department in the future as this name can be retained. To further increase the awareness of the service as well as user friendliness, the name of the service is changed to "Select Personal Email Name". The service can be found by clicking the "Administrative Services" option on the Universitys Intranet at http://www.cityu.edu.hk/cityu/intranet.htm. If you are not familiar with the Universitys Intranet, please follow the steps at the end of this article to invoke the service.
Note that the selected name, e.g. Candy.Tong, is only a second name (technically known as email alias) to your email account name, e.g. poctong, which is purely for the sending and receiving of email. To access other services which ask for username, the account name, e.g. poctong, should always be used.
When you are done with the registration, you should take advantage of your alias name by adopting the following measures:
