Eudora Pro Corner

Horizontal Rule [Dec 97]

Q. Why do some of my mail have line breaks at strange positions?

  1. This may be due to "Word Wrapping" being selected when the mail was composed by the sender.
  2. When "Word Wrapping" is being selected, the [Image] button is being pushed down. Carriage Return is inserted by Eudora at the end of around 80 characters. This function is good if you are sending out paragraphs of text and the receiver is using an old fashion email reader which does not support word wrapping itself.
  3. To disable this "Word Wrap" facility, simple select Tools > Options from the Menu Bar.
  4. Select the "Sending Mail" category and uncheck the "Word Wrap" box.

Q. How can I save the email address of the sender of a received mail?

  1. You can save it as a Nickname in your Address Book.
  2. Read the received mail.
  3. Select Special > Make Address Book Entry from the Menu Bar.
  4. Give a nickname to this email address in the Address Book.
  5. Note that this nickname will contain the sender’s address as well as all other addresses in the header of the mail. If you want the nickname to represent only the sender’s address, you need to delete all other addresses in the nickname entry.

Q. Where are the folders and mailboxes on my hard disk?

  1. All your Folders and Mailboxes are kept under c:\csc_app\mailbox\username\ on your hard disk where username is your email username.
  2. For example, if you have created a folder called Friends and inside it are two mailboxes called Local and Overseas respectively, you should find the sub-directory friend.fol under c:\csc_app\mailbox\username\. Also, you should find the files local.mbx and overseas.mbx under the sub-directory friend.fol. Each of these .mbx files represents a mailbox and contains the content of the the mail messages in the mailbox. Also, you should find the files local.toc and overseas.toc which are the corresponding Index files for quick reference to individual mails in a mailbox.

Q. How can I delete old mail through Pathworks Mail?

A: Since Eudora can only access messages in the NEWMAIL folder of your email account, your old mail stored in other folders cannot be cleaned up through Eudora.

You can clean up your old mail messages through Pathworks Mail by the following procedure:

  1. Select Folder > Switch Folder > target-folder from the Menu Bar.
  2. If you want to delete all messages in a folder, enter "delete /all" in the command line.
  3. If you want to delete a particular message in the folder, position your cursor on the message and enter "delete" in the command line.
  4. Enter "purge" in the command line.
  5. Repeat the above procedure for each folder.
