From April this year, all UGC member institutions can enjoy faster internet connection to the US. Why? The bandwidth has been increased from the existing T-1 (1.544Mbps) link to an E-1 (2.048Mbps) link, which will surely ease internet traffic congestion. However, with the ever-increasing demands from the users, it is foreseeable that the E-1 link will soon be saturated. In view of that, it is proposed that towards the end of the year, the internet link will be further improved to 6Mbps, almost triple the current speed, and electronic data communication among the eight tertiary institutions will switch from T-1 to ATM. So stay tuned for the latest updates!
