Student Computer Literacy Programme

Horizontal Rule Issue Date

The Student Computer Literacy Programme is a series of short courses designed for new students to capture the basic knowledge on the use of computers outside formal curriculum. At present, five core courses are offered to cover the following areas:

* Computing facilities available from the Computer Centre

* Fundamentals of personal computer and its operating system

* The Windows graphical user environment

* Word processing

* Spreadsheet and business graphics

* Presentation with computers

These courses are offered repeatedly throughout the year to cater for more students. Last year, more than 5,000 students participated. This year, we have reformed the programme to offer small group training and emphasize more on practical skills. The first run started in early September.

In addition, there are introductory courses on using Unix and SPSS which will be offered upon request.
