By Raymond Poon

If you are an IBM computer user who has not yet heard about the CityU's IBM ThinkPad (TP) Service Centre, you will be glad to know that it is now located at Room G2504 adjacent to the entrance of the Computing Services Centre (CSC) on the 2/F of Academic Building to provide speedy and convenient service to users.

Established only three months ago, this on-site Service Centre is a partnership agreement between IBM and CityU with the following benefits to staff and department users:

  • Enjoy services provided by CityU TP Service Centre with an extensive opening hour from 10:00 to 19:00, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays)
  • Served by IBM certified professional ThinkPad engineer
  • Problems encountered by users can be solved within a much shorter time by leveraging IBM's unique technologies, tools and on-site services
  • IBM's Rapid Restore PC (RRPC) technology is employed to improve the development and deployment efficiency of CityU disk image file (for PC recovery use)
  • User-friendly network connection profile management of wired, wireless and private networks by realizing IBM Access connection software

In addition to the foregoing benefits to staff and departments, the CityU TP Service Centre also aims at improving service level to CityU's staff and students who own ThinkPad for their personal use. Services include:

  • Generic daily usage support and consultancy to ThinkPad users
  • First level hardware failure analysis
  • First level hardware maintenance and repair
  • First level software support
