Guideline for Fast Network Printing Service

Fast network printing service is available in Computing Services Centre for providing fast, high quality Black/White and Color printings. Two high performance printers of same model called "Charge01" & "Charge02" are used for the service. Two print queues are created for each printer for providing optimized settings for Black/White or Color printings. Users can submit print jobs from network computers, release their print jobs at the Release Station and pay with their Octopus Cards.

Steps for printing in CSC Terminal Rooms:

  1. Connect to the print queue for fast network printing through the Work Desk Menu

  2. Print to the desired print queue in your application (e.g. Microsoft Word)

  3. Go to the Release Station, login with your EID and password

  4. Select the printer that is connected to the Release Station (If no printer is selected, no print job will be shown in the next window)

  5. Print your submitted print job(s) and pay with your Octopus Card by following the "Procedure for releasing print job(s)" available at the release station.

  • How many printers are used for fast network printing service?

  • What are the items for fast network printing service in the Work Desk Menu?

    Printer – Connect to Fast Network Printing Service Print Queue (Charge_BW) ( The Black/White print queue)

    Printer – Connect to Fast Network Printing Service Print Queue (Charge_Color) ( The Color print queue)

  • What are the charging rates?

    Both A4, A3 Color - $3.0 / page

    Both A4, A3 Black & White - $0.3 / page

    Duplex printing will be charged as 2 pages

  • How to pay?

    Using your Octopus Card for payment at the Release Station

  • How the money deduct from the Octopus Card?

    The money will be deducted page by page and before printing each page

  • What happen if my Octopus Card hasn't sufficient money to cover the cost of printing?

    You are recommended to add sufficient amount of money to your Octopus Card before printing.

    If you use the card that hasn't sufficient money for printing, your printing will be stopped when the value of the card has been used up. The printing can be resumed by inserting another Octopus Card with sufficient value. If you do not have another Octopus Card, you may cancel the rest of your printing by pressing the "Job Reset" button on the printer.

  • Do I have to release my print jobs immediately after I have placed them on the print queue?

    No, you can release the print jobs any time at your convenience but before the service's closing time on the date that you queue your print job. However, remember to properly protect your personal belongings when you leave your seat even for a short while for collecting your print out.

  • What happen if the file contains color pages printed to Black/White print queue?

    The color pages will be printed in Black/White and $0.3 will be deducted for each page

  • What happen if I change the setting of the Black/White print queue to "Color" and then submit print jobs?

    The print jobs will be deleted automatically by the server to prevent unexpected high cost printing

  • Why the color print queues are slower than the Black/White print queues?

    The default settings for the color print queues have been set to best quality so that the printing time will be longer

  • How to print a file contains both color and Black/White pages?

    You are recommended to print color pages to color print queue and black/white pages to black/white print queue

  • What can I do if printing problem occurs (e.g. paper jam, toner low or paper out)?

    If you have any problem in this service, please contact Service Counter for assistance

Practices and Policies for Fast Network Printing Service 

  • No refund will be made under all circumstances
  • The CSC takes no responsibility for loss of Octopus Card and printout
  • It is the users responsibility to ensure that all printed materials are compliant to the laws of Hong Kong
  • The use of this service must comply to the University regulations and policies
  • The facility is not a copying machine, no photocopying service is provided
  • For maintenance purpose, CSC has the right to delete print jobs that affect the normal service
  • Unreleased print jobs will not be kept overnight
  • Users should queue up at the Release Station for releasing print job(s) and leave the Station as soon as the printing is completed
  • No cable disconnection, movement, setting alteration and opening of the Release Station and Fast Printer
  • Black/White pages will be charged as Color printing when user uses color print queue to print
  • To provide best quality for color printing, the settings of the color print queues have been set to best quality and the printing time will be longer
  • The CSC may revise the policies and practices applicable to the Fast Network Printing Service from time to time to improve its service quality or operation without prior notice
  • The users are encouraged to provide feedback/comments on the Fast Network Printing Service by writing to cc@cityu.edu.hk or by dropping them in the suggestion box located near the Service Counter
