Why do my old mails inside "Inbox" disappear?

If you had used POP3 email client such as Outlook Express to access your mailbox and the setting on the email client is "Do not leave mail on server" (or similar meaning), messages on the server would be deleted after they have been downloaded into your local PC. Therefore, when you use WebMail or other email client (such as Outlook Express, Outlook or Eudora) later, you would not be able to access those messages on the server.

If this is the case, you need to find those lost mail from the Inbox of the email client (which had downloaded messages from your mailbox) of the local PC.

In order to avoid this problem to occur again, you are recommended to use the following approach:

  1. Set up your email client so that mail is left on server after being downloaded into your local PC. However, you need to periodically clean up messages from the server.
  2. Use IMAP rather then POP to access your mailbox.
