Student Notebook Computer Daily Loan Scheme (DLS) Scheme aims to enable CityU students on the main campus to use notebook computers and the wireless network for their studies.
All full-time and part-time students in the main campus are eligible to borrow the notebook computers (notebook) from the Student Notebook Computer Daily Loan Scheme (Counter).
| Monday - Friday | 08:30 to 21:45 |
| Saturday | 09:00 to 21:00 |
| Sunday | 13:00 to 17:30 |
| Public holidays | No service |
Students can use the web-based Computer Reservation System (CRS) to make reservation for a notebook. A point system is adopted to calculate the points obtained from each reservation, checkout, cancellation, late return, etc. by students, and three priority classes are set for them according to the points they accumulated. In short, the higher the point, the lower the priority class.
Notebooks are provided for on-campus use only, and they must be returned on the same day.
Students who have not made any reservation may also borrow a notebook if spare ones are available at the Counter.
Students must take the notebook assigned to them by the Counter staff unless it malfunctions.
Malfunctioned notebooks must be returned to the Counter for repair as soon as possible.
The service will be suspended for students who have not returned the loan notebook or settled the payments due to damage, loss or late return.
You should be aware that you are solely responsible for any loss or damage of the notebook your borrowed, and thus you must not lend the notebook to others for use or to ask someone to return the notebook on your behalf.
When a notebook is reserved or borrowed, the following point system will be adopted:
| Nature | Description | Points(s) Added |
|---|---|---|
| Usage Point | 1. Make a reservation | 0 |
| 2. Cancel a reservation before loan session starts | 0 | |
| 3. Cancel a reservation after loan session starts | Number of hours[1] elapsed after the start of the loan session | |
| 4. No show | +12 | |
| 5. Loan out successfully | 0 | |
| 6. Return by due time | Number of loan hours[1] | |
| Penalty Point | 7. Late return (on the same day) | Number of loan hours[1] |
| 8. Late return (subsequent days) | 3 + Number of loan hours[1] (plus $100 fine per day) |
[1] Number of (loan) hours will be truncated to whole integer.
According to the total points accumulated, students who want to reserve notebooks will fall into one of the following three priority classes:
A rolling mechanism is employed to accumulate the points -- for usage point (item 1-6 above), the points in the last immediate 30 days will be accumulated; for penalty point (item 7 & 8), the points in the last immediate 180 days will be accumulated. Any points obtained before these periods will be cancelled. Students can click the 'Point Details' button in CRS to view their records.
The total points accumulated for a student will be either the total usage point or the total penalty point, whichever is the higher.
To encourage the efficient use of notebooks, points are calculated based on the length of the loan period, i.e. the earlier a notebook is returned, the fewer points will be given.
The Computing Services Centre reserves the right to adjust the point level of each priority class when necessary to maintain fairness and flexibility.
Students who fail to return the notebook by the due time are subject to the addition of extra point(s) and a fine of $100 per day including public holidays.
When a student borrows a notebook, he/she should assume financial responsibility for its damage and loss. The student will be charged the full repair cost for the damage and the amount derived from the original price, lifetime, and depreciation of the computer for the loss.
These guidelines are subject to regular review and change by the University.
