All full-time and part-time students on the main campus of the university are eligible to borrow the notebook computers (notebooks) from the Student Notebook Computer Daily Loan Scheme (DLS) and are liable for any damage or loss. The Computer Reservation System (CRS) is provided for the online reservation of notebooks. Reservation is on a first-come-first-served basis and no waiting list will be maintained. Notebooks are provided for on-campus use only, and they must be returned on the same day.
A point system is adopted to calculate the points students obtained as a result of reservations, cancellations, late returns, etc of the loan notebooks. The points accumulated will be used to determine the priority class a student falls into. In short, the higher the point is, the lower the priority class. The system ensures fairness among students to reserve the notebooks. Students must return the notebooks on time; otherwise, they will not only accumulate more points, but also be fined in accordance to the regulations, and may even be temporarily suspended from using the service.
The DLS Counter has three service points, each of which is able to handle independent check-out or return procedures. During peak periods, additional counters such as the Service Counter including mobile ones, may be set up to ease the congestion if necessary. A display machine is set up outside the Service Counter to show the availability of notebooks and the late return information.
