Notebook Computer

In addition to the 700 workstations housed inside the CSC student terminal area, 600 notebook computers have been prepared for loan to students for on- campus use.  All notebook computers are equipped with the essential central software applications, and configured to access the campus network via the wireless LAN around the campus.  A special counter has been set up in the Computing Services Centre (CSC) to handle loan and return of these machines.

Students can make reservations for using these notebook computers through the “CSC Notebook Computer Loan Service/Student Terminal Booking” system under “Facilities Booking” via the “Univ. Services (Student)” tab of the University e-Portal.

PC Workstation

There are around 740 advanced workstations distributed in 16 teaching studios.  To secure the use of computer resources (especially during peak periods such as the last week of a semester), individual student can reserve a workstation at his or her desired time slot.  Free laser printers are provided in the large terminal rooms at a ratio of 1 printer to 4~8 workstations.

Students can make reservations for using these PC workstations through the “CSC Notebook Computer Loan Service/Student Terminal Booking” system under “Facilities Booking” via the “Univ. Services (Student)” tab of the University e-Portal.

Teaching Studio

The CSC has set up 16 teaching studios to facilitate computer demonstration and hands-on sessions.  Each of these teaching studios is equipped with a big screen projector, an audio system, and varying number (10 to 82) of advanced PCs with multimedia devices as well as DVD/CD-RW combo drive.  All PCs are connected to the campus network, and can work as workstations by themselves or as terminals for accessing software services that are available on the central computers.

Staff can make reservations for using these teaching studios through the “CSC Teaching Studio Booking” system under “Facilities Booking” via the “UNIV. Services (staff)” tab of the University e-Portal.

Express Printing Station

The Express Printing Stations are set up to provide fast printing service to those students who have not booked a PC beforehand but have urgent needs of printing a small number of pages.  A time limit of 20 minutes per session was set so that well-prepared and finalized documents can be printed right away.  No editing is allowed on these printing stations.
