The printing facilities set up in the CSC Terminal Area (and other buildings) are solely for your academic work. You should print only materials directly related to your course work and those pages that are really needed. These services are free of charge to students and are limited by the print quota allocated to them.
An annual print quota of 1,600 pages will be allocated in one go to new intakes and existing regular students on campus a few days before the first teaching day of Semester A. The same treatment of print quota will be allocated to new research students when their computer accounts are created. No additional print quota will be allocated for the Summer Term and Term Break. This quota is non-refundable, non-transferable, and cannot be carried forward. This print quota already covers the loss of quota due to paper jam, toner low, stuck of print queue and the like.
Each CSC Teaching Studio is installed with two small printers (HP LaserJet). Users can select it through the Work Desk Menu. The print quota will be deducted when users print to these small printers. Students must bring along their own printing paper.
Express laser printers are located inside the Printing and Plotting Room.
One printer is attached to each workstation and specially set up for printing small print jobs. Their uses are subject to a maximum time session as specified in the booking ticket. Booking for these printers can be made using the local booking system located near these printers. The print quota will be deducted when users print to these small printers. Students must bring along their own printing paper.
Students can print to a central print queue and release their print jobs at any print release stations of this service. It provides fast and high volume printing. The print quota will be deducted when users release their print jobs. Printing papers are provided for this service.
It is a charged service to supplement the existing quota-based printing service with the following purposes:
Two high-performance colour laser printers (Fast Network Printers) are placed in the corridor between Room E and Room F. Users may follow the instructions posted near these printers to print and release their Black & White/Colour printouts.
An HP Designjet 430 is available at the corridor outside Room G for use by staff and students. This is an A0 inkjet plotter of 600 dpi resolution, supporting HPGL/2 graphics languages.
Five colour scanners with OCR capability are available at the CSC Student Terminal Area for use by staff and students. These machines can be used to capture colour images and text documents.
