Honorary Fellows
CityU will confer the title of Honorary Fellow on Mr Chan Ka-kui, BBS, JP, and Mrs Rebecca Lai Ko Wing-yee, JP, in recognition of their significant contributions to the development of, and service to, the University. The Honorary Fellow Presentation Ceremony will be held in September.

 

New appointment
Professor Kelvin Yau Kai-wing, Professor of the Department of Management Sciences and Associate Dean of the College of Business, has been appointed as Associate Dean of Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies, effective from 1 July 2015.

 

Donation
CityU has received a HK$5 million donation from Dr Koo Ming-kown, founder of the Nam Tai Group and Honorary Graduate of CityU, in support of the University’s strategic initiatives.

 

Distinguished lecture
Professor Liu Chao-han, Academician of Academia Sinica, and KT Li Distinguished Chair Professor of National Central University in Taiwan, will deliver a City University Distinguished Lecture, “From Global Change to Future Earth – Research for Global Sustainability”, on 24 July.

 

International conference
Hosted by the Department of Chinese and History, and co-organised by the National Palace Museum of Taiwan and the Hong Kong Maritime Museum, an international conference, The Maritime World of East Asia in 16th-19th Century, will be held from 7 to 8 July at CityU.

Scholars from around the world will be invited to the conference to discuss topics including trading activities in East Asia, sea-going pirates and merchants in Southeast and Northeast Asia as well as along the coast of China, and measures taken by the Ming-Qing central and local governments to overcome piracy.

 

Kudos
Four CityU business students won the Championship and the Best Video Award in the Global Business Challenge 2015, organised by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), during the local final in Hong Kong on 13 June. The four Year 3 students, Alan Duan YanlinLydia Liu Chunyou and Bella Jiang Xinnan of the Department of Accountancy, and Lisa Zhou Hanye of the Department of Economics and Finance, will represent Hong Kong for the global final in Poland this August.

Engineering students won the championship and the 2nd runner-up in the HKIE Joint Institutes Competition, which was organised by the Student Chapters of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE). The theme of the competition was "Green Life in Hong Kong". The championship students are Kam Chun-wingYang Jie and Choi Ka-pang from the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering, and Lai Chun-tak and Yim Man-to from the Department of Electronic Engineering. The runner-up team comprised students Leung Wai-chung, Fok Hau-ching and Lo Tsz-kwan from the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering.

Two teams of students each received the Third Prize in the 13th Guangdong Province Collegiate Programming Contest held in Zhuhai in May. One team consisted of two Year 3 students, Chau Ka-tsun and Yuan Hongning from the Department of Computer Science, and a Year 2 student Zuo Yichen from the School of Creative Media, as well as another team with two Year 4 students Tang Tsz-wan and Chan Wai-san, and a Year 3 student Chan Ka-yi from the Department of Electronic Engineering.
