Expand Global Connection: CityUHK COM partners with Renmin University of China to boost academic collaboration

To foster a supportive global academic connection, the Department of Media and Communication (COM) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) and the School of Journalism and Communication at Renmin University of China (RUC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This MoU represents a significant step for both institutions to strengthen their close relationship through enhanced academic and research collaborations, particularly aimed at cultivating expertise in digital innovation across the media and communication industries.
The MoU was signed by Prof. HUANG Yi-hui, Head of the Department of Media and Communication at CityUHK, and Professor ZHOU Yong, Deputy Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication at RUC. It was endorsed by Prof. HO Tat Kei Alfred, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at CityUHK, and witnessed by Professor YAN Yan from the School of Journalism and Communication at RUC.
This agreement establishes a framework for partnership between CityUHK and RUC in the field of communication, exploring potential opportunities for student exchanges, academic collaborations, and joint research projects.
“The partnership provides an outstanding opportunity for students to collaborate with top scholars and peers from the mainland. It greatly enriches their global perspective and research capabilities, equipping them to seize future opportunities in the digital media field,” said Prof. Huang.
Prof. ZHOU emphasized that the field of news and journalism is undergoing an unprecedented paradigm shift in the face an accelerating global change not seen in a century. He expressed hope that the collaboration, transcending regional and disciplinary boundaries, could nurture a new generation of media professionals who are deeply rooted in local culture while possessing a global perspective in digital media. Such efforts aim to help mainland China explore a path for advancing journalism education that is both principled and innovative.
