Associate of Arts in English for Professional Communication
PROGRAMME AIMS
Upon successful completion of this programme, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate English language skills at an appropriate level for articulation to higher study in a range of everyday, academic, and employment-related contexts ;
- Explain and apply a range of communication and cultural theories and processes, both verbal and non-verbal ;
- Produce a range of media in English, including the use of information and communication technologies for academic and professionally-related purposes ;
- Explain the functions of mass media and language in society and discuss them in the socio-political, cultural and economic contexts in the region and beyond ;
- Identify and explore critically problems, gather relevant information, carry out and present basic research under guidance, and propose solutions to problems both individually and as part of a team;
- Relate the major ideas in arts and humanities, science and technology to their own area of study.
FURTHER STUDIES AND CAREER PROSPECTS
- After graduation you can complete a bachelor’s degree in one or two years, in a range of options, including BA (Hons) in English Studies (at CityU), BA (Hons) in English for International Corporate Communication (University of Central Lancashire, through CityU SCOPE), various BA Honours degrees in English at University of Portsmouth (in UK), BA (Hons) in International Business Communication, University of Westminster (UK), BA (Hons) in or Business Communication at Middlesex University (UK), and BA (Hons) Communication, Media and Culture and English Language and Linguistics (joint degree), at Oxford Brookes University (UK). - You can take up a wide variety of jobs in public and customer relations, media, editing, personnel administration, and teaching, and in any area where strong English language communication ability is essential.

- D or above in HKALE AS Use of English/ AL English Literature; or
- D or above in HKCEE English Language (Syl. B)/ Level 3 or above in English Language, or equivalent
- Level 3 or above in HKDSE English Language or Literature in English
