PROGRAMME AIMS

Upon successful completion of this programme, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate Chinese language skills at an appropriate level for articulation to further studies in a range of everyday, academic, and employment-related contexts;
  • Explain the key features and cultural context of classical and modern Chinese literature and philosophy, as well as their continuity;
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the structure and resources of Chinese language for application in academic and professional contexts;
  • Demonstrate the ability to use Putonghua and English for a range of academic and professional communication purposes;
  • Identify problems and analyze them critically, gather relevant information, carry out basic research under guidance, and propose solutions to solve problems responsibly both individually and as part of a team;
  • Apply the knowledge and skills of information technology to handle different forms of communication.


FURTHER STUDIES AND CAREER PROSPECTS

  • Articulation routes to local and overseas universities are provided to graduates who wish to obtain a first degree such as Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Chinese at City University of Hong Kong and Bachelor of Arts at Monash University.   • About 70% of our graduates go on to further study. About 25% of them are admitted to Government-funded degree programmes offered by City University and other universities in Hong Kong. Other graduates may continue with their studies in self-financing top-up degrees at other local universities. Some graduates also continue with their studies in China, Australia and the United Kingdom.
  • As graduates of AAACS, your specialized skills in Chinese will be much in demand in a wide range of language-related careers.
  • Many of our graduates join the mass media, business, public administration and related sectors as editors, reporters, copywriters, scriptwriters, secretaries, administrative assistants, public relations officers, customer service officer, legislative assistants and teaching assistants.

PROGRAMME SPECIFIC ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

  • D or above in HKALE AS Chinese Language and Culture/ AL Chinese Literature; or
  • C or above in HKCEE Chinese Language/ Chinese Literature/ Level 4 or above in Chinese Language/ Chinese Literature; or
  • Level 3 or above in HKDSE Chinese Language or Chinese Literature; or
  • equivalent qualifications
