Associate of Social Science in Public Administration & Management
PROGRAMME AIMS
Upon successful completion of this programme, students will be able to:
- Apply theories, principles and practical skills of public administration for effective management in an organizational setting;
- Criticize and evaluate social and political issues, relating ideas from public administration and management studies and other disciplines including arts and humanities, science and technology;
- Explain and analyze the relationships between administrative and managerial activity and the cultural, organizational, social, political and economic context within which it is practised;
- Communicate effectively both orally and in written form and work effectively in teams;
- Demonstrate the necessary academic research skills for further studies.
FURTHER STUDIES AND CAREER PROSPECTS
- Graduates who wish to pursue further studies may be granted entry into senior years of selected Bachelor of Social Science programmes offered by City University of Hong Kong. They are also eligible for various social science degree programmes offered by other local universities and the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Applied Social Science offered in Hong Kong by Sheffield Hallam University, UK in conjunction with CityU and the part-time conversion programme leading to BA (Hons) in Public Administration and Management, offered through CityU by De Montfort University. - Graduates of the programme will find employment in a wide variety of sectors such as the government, the services industry, media, education, trading, manufacturing, public utilities and non-government organizations. Graduates have also been employed in the non-profit and private sectors as Administrative Assistants, Personnel Officers, Marketing Executives, Researchers, Project Co-ordinators and other junior executive positions.
MAIN SUBJECT AREAS
- The curriculum has two components: general education and specialized study in public administration and management.
General Education comprises courses covering five domains: Arts and Humanities, Science and Technology, Life Management, Regional and Global Issues, and Language.
