Associate of Social Science in Applied Psychology
PROGRAMME AIMS
Upon successful completion of this programme, students will be able to:
- Analyze the major psychological concepts, theoretical perspectives, and empirical findings in human processes and behaviour;
- Apply psychological knowledge in personal, socio-political, cultural, and professional contexts;
- Apply psychological approaches and use appropriate information technology in gathering and analyzing data, solving problems, and developing initiatives within various personal and professional settings;
- Perform skilled tasks responsibly and produce outputs that meet quality standards;
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, on psychology related issues;
- Relate the major ideas in arts and humanities, science and technology to psychology.
FURTHER STUDIES AND CAREER PROSPECTS
- Graduates who wish to pursue further studies may be granted entry into senior years of selected Bachelor of Social Science programmes offered by City University of Hong Kong. They are also eligible for various social science degree programmes offered by other local universities and the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Applied Social Science offered in Hong Kong by Sheffield Hallam University, UK in conjunction with CityU. - Graduates of this programme will be equipped to apply their expertise in a diverse range of careers including business, administration, social service and social care, health care, counselling, children and youth work, education and training.
MAIN SUBJECT AREAS
The curriculum has two components: general education and specialized study in applied psychology.
General Education comprises courses covering five domains: Arts and Humanities, Science and Technology, Life Management, Regional and Global Issues, and Language.
