Associate of Science in Environmental Studies
PROGRAMME AIMS
Upon successful completion of this programme, students will be able to:
- Explain concepts and methods fundamental to environmental studies;
- Analyse and interpret data using quantitative methods, and information technology systems, particularly with regard to environmental data, and especially for the purpose of planning and management;
- Relate environmental issues, activities, planning and management practices, as appropriate, to the socio-political, cultural and economic contexts of the region and beyond, as a participating and responsible member of civic society;
- Perform skilled tasks responsibly, in accordance with ethical norms, and produce outputs that meet quality standards;
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, on environmental issues using English;
- Relate the major ideas in arts and humanities, science and technology to their own area of study.
FURTHER STUDIES AND CAREER PROSPECTS

The programme is designed to facilitate credit transfer or admission with advance standing to degree programmes offered by both local and overseas universities. Recent examples include the BSocSc (Hons) in Environmental Policy and the BSc (Hons) in Environmental Science and Management offered by the City University of Hong Kong, the BSc (Hons) in Environmental Science offered by the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the BSc (Hons) programme offered by the University of Hong Kong with a major in Environmental Science, the BSc (Hons) in Applied Science (Energy and Environment) and the BSc (Hons) in Environmental and Public Health offered by the Open University of Hong Kong, and the BSc(Hons) in Environment and Sustainable Development offered by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Students who prefer to pursue their final year Degree studies overseas will find suitable programmes in environmental studies with, for example, the UK universities of Plymouth, Portsmouth, Hertfordshire, and Winchester. Graduates from this programme will be eligible for a broad range of jobs, such as Environmental Protection Inspector in the Environmental Protection Department; Health Inspector in the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department; Country Park Officer in the Fisheries and Conservation Department; Marketing Executives in occupational health and environmental safety products; Environmental Assistant/Planner in property development companies, construction firms, or architectural firms; Technician in environmental consultancies or regulatory organizations; Research Assistant in related disciplines, etc. With sufficient years of experience and the acquisition of more academic qualifications through lifelong learning, graduates from the programme can be promoted to

PROGRAMME SPECIFIC ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
- E or above in either one of the following HKCEE/HKALE AS/HKALE subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, or equivalent;
- Level 2 or above in either one of the following HKDSE subjects: Chemistry, Biology, Geography or equivalent.
