Associate of Science in Applied Business Statistics

PROGRAMME AIMS

Upon successful completion of this programme, students will be able to:

  • Apply mathematical and statistical skills to formulate and solve business problems;
  • Use a range of statistical and information technology applications to solve business problems;
  • Apply business sense and ethical principles in the undertaking of statistical work;
  • Examine the major socio-political, cultural and economic issues affecting business in the local, national, regional and international contexts;
  • Perform skilled tasks responsibly and produce outputs that meet quality standards;
  • Communicate efficiently in English both orally and in writing in different business environments;
  • Relate the major ideas in arts and humanities, science and technology to their own area of study.

FURTHER STUDIES AND CAREER PROSPECTS

  • Graduates may apply for articulation to degree programmes in local universities like BSc (Hons) in Computing Mathematics, BBA (Hons) in Managerial Statistics, BBA (Hons) Marketing Information Management of the City University of Hong Kong, BSc (Hons) in Investment Science and BSc (Hons) in Statistics and Computing offered by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Some of the graduates also further their study in top-up degree programmes offered jointly by the continuing education units of local universities and overseas universities. Many graduates manage to receive multiple admission offers from different local universities for their degree study.   • Graduates may be employed by a wide range of public and commercial organizations in jobs which rely on the use of statistical methods and computing techniques to analyse data related to the management and operation of the organization. The majority of graduates are expected to enter the job market in the Business, Insurance, Banking and Finance sectors. Many of the core courses are identical to courses in the year 1 and 2 curricula of related bachelor’s degree programmes both locally and overseas. Graduates will be able to pursue further studies in Applied Statistics, Computing Mathematics, Operational Research and Business Finance.

PROGRAMME SPECIFIC ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

  • E or above in either one of the following HKCEE/HKALE AS/HKALE subjects: Mathematics / Additional Mathematics / Mathematics & Statistics / Pure Mathematics / Applied Mathematics, or equivalent;
  • Level 2 or above in HKDSE Mathematics or equivalent.
