PROGRAMME AIMS
Upon successful completion of this programme, students will be able to:
- Apply mathematical methods and analytical skills, and engineering methods and tools, to basic engineering design problems and derive solutions;
- Produce digital and analogue circuits and software according to system specifications and standards;
- Examine important ethical, socio-political, cultural and/or economic issues, affecting engineering in the local, national, regional and international contexts;
- Relate major ideas in arts and humanities, science and technology to engineering;
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using English and Chinese.
FURTHER STUDIES AND CAREER PROSPECTS
- The programme is designed to facilitate credit transfer or admission with advance standing to degree programmes offered by both local and overseas universities. Graduates have been accepted by all local universities offering suitable engineering programmes. Recent examples include the degree programmes offered by City University such as the BEng (Hons) in Computer Engineering, BEng (Hons) in Information Engineering. Other programmes which have accepted our graduates include the BEng (Hons) in Computer Engineering and the BEng (Hons) in Electronic Engineering offered by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the BEng (Hons) Information Engineering, BEng (Hons) Computer Science and BEng (Hons) Computer Engineering offered by the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Various top-up degree programmes are also available including the BSc (Hons) Business Information Technology and BSc (Hons) Business Management (Engineering) offered by City University SCOPE.For details, please refer to the programme website at http://www.dco.cityu.edu.hk/AEng and the iPASS of HKSAR at http://www.ipass.gov.hk/eng/.
- The Associate of Engineering is designed as an entry-level programme in engineering which prepares students for further studies and a career in computer engineering, electronic and electrical engineering, and communications/information engineering. It also develops transferable skills which build confidence in a range of areas including analytical skill, problem solving in technical design and implementation, and the ability to communicate. Graduates from this programme will be able to find employment as technical support personnel in computer manufacturing, electronics design and servicing, electrical appliance development and maintenance, software development, Internet services, product design, and sales and marketing of technical products. After joining a company, graduates may undergo on-the-job training to qualify as technicians or technologists.
