Enhance Employability While Exploring the World

The Global Work Attachment Programme (GWAP), organised by the Career and Leadership Centre, offers an array of internship opportunities in diverse sectors around the world.

Since its inception in 2015, over 600 CityU students had gained hands-on work experience in new cultures and a global perspective through spending their summers with us in GWAP. Join us and it's your turn this coming summer!


Programme Details

interns

Internship Locations:
Berlin, Munich, Shanghai, Singapore, and Sydney

Internship Period:
8 consecutive weeks between June and August 2024

Internship Type: Face-to-face; non-remunerated*

Job Nature: Business Operations, Customer Services, Data Analysis and
Research, Design, Hospitality, Human Resources (HR) and Administration, Information Technology (IT), Legal, Marketing, Public Relations, Social Services, and more.

*Financial subsidies will be available, subject to satisfactory completion of the Programme and meeting relevant requirements.


Internship Matching Process: job matching

^All student nominations for host companies' further consideration for interview and internship offers would only be made based on the indicated preferences made by the student. The host companies will have the final decisions on the internship offers in the Programme. We urge students participating GWAP to be open-minded and welcome a valuable internship opportunity out of Hong Kong, rather than focusing on working a specific role at a specific company.


Eligibility:
  • Year 1, 2, 3 or penultimate year students who are studying a full-time UGC-funded Bachelor's degree programme.
  • Cumulative GPA (CGPA) at or above 2.80 at the time of application
Notes:
  • Priority will be given to Year 2 and Year 3 or penultimate year undergraduate students and who did not join GWAP before.
  • Exchange students, associate degree and postgraduate degree students are not eligible to apply for GWAP.

Programme Requirements:
  • Participants are required to comply with the Programme arrangements and attend the workshops and activities arranged by CLC, for the purposes including but not limited to internship screening and matching, internship-related training, and preparation of departure, and submit all the required assignments to complete the Programme.

  • Receiving positive feedback from the host company/organisation.

  • A preliminary screening by interview will be conducted by the GWAP team for admission to the Programme. If shortlisted, a HK$3,000 deposit is required as caution money to confirm the student's admission to Programme.

    This deposit will be refunded upon the commencement of the internship OR if no internship positions could be offered to the applicants, and will only be forfeited if student decides to withdraw from the Programme at any time for any reasons or fails to meet any of the Programme requirements.

Notes: interns
  • You will be asked to upload a CV and grade display report (generated in AIMS) to your online application.

  • The shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an in-person admissions group interview session on campus on 21 / 22 February 2024, between 11:00 am and 6:00 pm.

  • A confirmation email with admissions interview details (date, time and venue) will be sent to eligible applicants' CityU email on 19 February 2024.

Financial Support

GWAP Subsidy:

  • A subsidy will be granted and released in 2 installments to students:
    the 1st upon confirmation of official offer, and;
    the 2nd upon satisfactory completion of the Programme (conditions applied).

  • The subsidy amount ranges from around HKD 14,000* to HKD 26,000*, depending on the internship location.
*A territory-wide effort to enhance students' Mainland and Global Engagement and learning experience, there might be more financial aid available at a later stage. We will update eligible Programme students once the relevant information are confirmed, tentatively in early 2024. interns

Merit-based Scholarships and Awards:
  • Outstanding students will have the opportunity to be nominated for the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Student Internship Scholarship award upon satisfactory completion of the Programme.

  • Students with financial needs can apply for the Joseph Lau Non-local Internship Award - Summer 2024 (conditions applied).

Pre-departure

Flight and Accommodation:

  • Students are responsible for arranging their flights and accommodation for their stay in the internship location of the entire period. Related information for reference will be provided by CLC.
Travel Documents and Visa:
  • Students are responsible for obtaining the correct visa, passport, and other necessary personal travel documents for their stay in the destination and will bear the associated cost. Related information for reference, as well as the necessary documents in support of the applications, will be provided by CLC as appropriate.
interns Insurance:
  • Students will be covered by the University's Group Personal Accident Insurance and Group Travel Insurance Policy for students throughout your stay overseas, provided that you depart from Hong Kong to the host destination.

  • In addition to the University’s provision, students are also required to purchase additional personal travel insurance.
Notes:
  • Students are responsible for their own living expenses, including meals and transportation. Students must ensure sufficient funds for living outside Hong Kong for the entire period.
