School Outreach Introducing CLASS Undergraduate Majors

As the new school year begins, the sixth-formers in Hong Kong are getting ready for the public examination and planning their paths ahead. For those who intend to pursue further study in one of the local tertiary institutions, a lot of choices are available but that can be quite confusing. It is essential for the students to find out the features of different programmes to make the best choice.

Invited by S.K.H. Tsang Shiu Tim Secondary School, the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) joined a session of its Parents’ Day for Form 6 students on 21 September 2019, during which the College’s Associate Dean (Undergraduate Education and Quality Assurance) Dr Peppina LEE gave an overview of the undergraduate majors offered by its seven departments, the entrance requirements for JUPAS applicants and the admission models. The talk also highlighted the teaching excellence of the University, the types of scholarship available and the wide variety of international exchange opportunities that CLASS offers to its students.

The Joint Bachelor’s Degree Program between City University of Hong Kong and Columbia University was also introduced. It allows students of eligible majors to complete the undergraduate curricula of both universities and gain two Bachelor’s degrees upon graduation.

While past admission scores and world university rankings by subject can be a good reference during the JUPAS application process, Dr Lee reiterated that students should identify their own interest and strengths in order to choose the right majors.

In addition to admission talks, the College also presents a series of expert talks which allow secondary school students to have a dip into various liberal arts and social sciences topics. Details are available here. To arrange an admission or expert talk on CLASS subjects, school representatives can reach us at ch.publicity@cityu.edu.hk

Prospective students are also welcome to attend the University’s Information Day on 19 October 2019, in which a list of talks, exhibitions, facility tours and interactive activities are arranged to provide information of its undergraduate programmes. Click here for more details.
