Valuable Occasion to Share and Learn

Two CLASS students shared their learning outcomes and gained fascinating insights at the CityU Employers’ Luncheon held on 9 April 2019. More than 600 participants attended this year, including around 350 employers from more than 200 companies.

A Student Work Exhibition was held prior to the luncheon. Translation and Interpretation student Water CHAN Man-lok told the employers what she has learned through the College’s Elite Leaders Programme. This programme was established in 2016 to develop students’ leadership potential through various activities, such as workshops on public speaking personal image. These activities, according to Water and other participating students, are challenging but rewarding.

Social Work student Ivy HEUNG Pun-yau also shared some remarkable moments of her journey in Myanmar, as she committed in the International Community Service-learning Programme. In addition to applying knowledge, concepts and skills she has acquired in the formal curriculum to deliver community service in this Southeast Asian country, Ivy also learned about Myanmar’s history and culture, as well as skills of teamwork, problem solving and communication.

“Not only do the various programmes offered by CLASS enrich students’ life and learning, it also fosters their whole person development and equips them with soft skills which are essential for them to face challenges in the ever-changing world.” said Professor Dennis WONG, Acting Dean of CLASS.

Following the exhibition, students were arranged to dine with the guests. The keynote speaker, Mr Willy LIN Sun-mo, GBS, JP, Chairman of the Hong Kong Productivity Council, delivered a talk titled “How INNOVATION Drives Our Future”, in which he emphasised the importance of innovation today and that embracing technology will help creating a brighter future for human beings.

The talk and the sharing with other guests in attendance provide students with an opportunity to grasp the latest development both worldwide and within various industries.

Entering its fifth year in 2019, CityU Employers’ Luncheon is an annual event which serves as a platform for CityU students to demonstrate their talents, showcase their achievements, build interpersonal networks and learn from the employers and public.
