Get to Know CLASS on CityU Virtual Undergraduate Open Day

The pandemic is still going on, but secondary school students can still get to know the programmes and opportunities offered by CLASS and its seven departments on CityU Virtual Undergraduate Open Day held on 19 March 2022.

By participating in an array of live sessions conducted via Zoom, students were able to have a better understanding of entry requirements, curriculum, career prospect and the opportunities of internship and internationalisation activities. Our faculty members, alumni and current student mentors interacted with participating secondary students on Zoom and answered their questions in real-time. To allow secondary students to have a basic idea of what liberal arts and social sciences are, CLASS hosted the live session “Explore the World of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences”. During the session, Dr Peppina LEE shared the importance of liberal arts and social sciences, and the multiple study pathways which the College offered to students. Alumna Zita TSUI also shared her overseas study experiences in Columbia University and Harvard University with the participating students.

Photo 2: Alumna Zita TSUI shared her study experiences in Taiwan and the US with students. She thanked CLASS for providing her with ample exchange opportunities which facilitated her personal development.

Among the departmental activities galore, in the session “Explore your Interest in Media and Communication: Sharing from COM Alumna/Current Faculty Member”, Dr Nancy DAI, Assistant Professor of the Department of Media and Communication (COM), shared how to explore interest in the field of media and communication. She also shared her cherishable moments of studying at COM. Programme videos and brochures, which highlight key features and strengths of various programmes, were also made available for viewing anywhere and anytime. In the session “What is English Studies? In Conversation: Dr Jerrine TAN and Dr Simon HARRISON” held by the Department of English, the two faculty members carried out a conversation about their research and teaching interests, and discussed the different approaches to English Studies.

We hope students have had a glimpse of the study life and learning experience at CityU through participating in this Virtual Undergraduate Open Day. Those who have missed the event may watch the recorded video of the session “Explore the World of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences” at the College’s website
