CLASS Young Scholar to Assume Significant Role at Professional Association

Dr Nancy DAI Yue, Assistant Professor at CityU’s Department of Media and Communication, was elected the Board Student and Early Career Representative in the 2021 election of the International Communication Association (ICA). ICA is an international association with over 50 years of history aiming to advance the scholarly study of communication by encouraging and facilitating excellence in academic research worldwide.

Serving at CityU after receiving her PhD at Michigan State University, Dr Dai’s research interests include computer-mediated communication, intergroup dynamics online, mediated intergroup contact, social influence and persuasion, technology and misinformation correction, and chatbot and social support.

The scope of the election included both association-wide votes and votes specific to divisions or interest groups. The position that Dr Dai will serve a two-year term from May 2022 is one of the wide positions representing the top level of the association’s leadership.

The role of Board Student and Early Career Representative is typically taken by PhD students or scholars within three to five years of their career. Dr Dai will serve the ICA community by representing the general needs of early career scholars, enhancing their experience, and advancing ICA’s profile as a welcoming organisation to early career scholars.
