Hybrid Conference Bridging Chinese Scholars

A hybrid conference held on 29 to 30 May 2021 jointly organised by CityU’s Department of Chinese and History (CAH) and the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences of Peking University (PKU) brought over 20 scholars from more than 10 institutions in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai and Macau together for intellectual discussions about the materialistic and emotional representations of modern ideologies.

The scholarly studies of western ideologies that introduced to Chinese society since the late Qing dynasty are abundant. The emergence of new medium and technologies, such as news media, telegraph, phonographic devices, photography etc, impacted the ways people from different eras expressed and disseminated ideologies. It formed the focal point of the conference.
