CLASS Faculty Elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health

Dr Nicholas THOMAS, Associate Professor at CityU’s Department of Asian and International Studies, has been elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health (RSPH).

An established researcher in health security, Dr Thomas’ research interests include Chinese foreign policy, health security in Asia, and Asian security. He was the editor of Health Security and Governance, a four-volume series incorporating the discussions of health security and foreign policy challenges, infectious diseases and security, global health governance, and health rights, liberties and laws. He has also published on SARS, Bird Flu, and Anti-Microbial Resistance. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr Thomas has been invited by an extensive range of local and international media outlets to share his expert opinion and help inform the public on this major crisis.

Established in 1856, RSPH is one of the oldest public health organisations in the world. It focuses on protecting the health of people through charity and policy work. The RSPH awards fellowship to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of people working in public health roles in the UK and globally. At the moment, it has Fellows around the world who work in a multitude of public health areas encompassing environmental health, food safety, health care, policy-making, and infectious diseases.
