Information Day 2016

Prof Way Kuo, CityU President, visited the CLASS exhibition booth to show his support

More than 30,000 students and parents explored the professional education opportunities on offer at the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) during a recent Information Day. Under the theme “Professional, Creative, For the World”, the various colleges and schools organised a series of exhibition booths, admission talks and workshops to explain choices and procedures.

Professors and students from the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) gave visitors an introduction to current undergraduate programmes and were ready to answer questions and inquiries. There were also a number of interactive activities and games at the Exploration Workshops booth set up by the Department of Applied Social Sciences. For their part, the Department of Media and Communication showcased the state-of-the-art facilities at the Omnimedia Digital Newsroom, 3D Virtual Studio and Advertising Studio in the Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre. CLASS also took the chance to promote the College’s mini movie competition, encouraging secondary students to enter the contest.

This being the second year for CLASS to use the department-based admission policy, the Information Day was also a good opportunity for the different departments to explain the steps for students now in the final year of secondary school. Attendees learnt about admission requirements and study options, and could get advice on specialised fields and related career prospects. They also heard from senior undergraduates about life as an exchange student spending time at a university overseas.

Prospective applicants and their parents were keen to talk about everything from the learning environment in various departments to course content and the benefits of overseas experience.
