Roundtable on Cross-Pacific Dynamics: Politics and Security

Organised by Global China Studies of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, City University of Hong Kong, and co-sponsored by Fair Winds Foundation, Taiwan, the Roundtable on Cross-Pacific Dynamics: Politics and Security was successfully held at CityU on 21 and 22 June 2017. The Roundtable was the second international workshop in celebration of the 3rd anniversary of Global China Studies of CLASS.

Eighteen scholars from the USA, mainland China, Taiwan, Macau, and Hong Kong participated in the workshop. Their presentations covered a broad range of topics such as USA’s strategy toward East Asia, changing dynamics in the Greater China region, cross-strait relations under Taiwan's new leadership, and the "one country, two systems" practice in Hong Kong. The discussion at the Roundtable focused on the evolution, modes and characteristics of engagement and tensions with an emphasis on the latest developments. The current bilateral or multilateral relations between or among mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the United States were carefully assessed.
