Welcome to the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at City University of Hong Kong

Welcome to the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) at City University of Hong Kong. CLASS emphasises research-led learning, practical knowledge, multicultural competence, and global awareness and offers students opportunities to develop cultural, social and political understanding as well as critical and creative thinking. Students study with committed teachers who encourage intellectual inquiry, develop knowledge in their discipline area, and acquire skills for professional careers. We aim to help students develop their full potential and serve the community after they graduate. We have built partnerships with top universities in the world including University of Oxford, University of Sydney, Columbia University, University of Edinburgh, University of Vienna and University of California at San Diego for international collaboration including joint degree programs in specific fields or student exchange and summer schools. Students participating in the joint degree programs will receive a degree from City University of Hong Kong and another from our partner university.

CLASS offers 11 undergraduate majors and over 30 minors ranging from Asian and international studies, public policy, and social and behavioural sciences to English, Chinese, linguistics, translation, culture and heritage management and media and communication. We also have 17 taught post-graduate programs including international studies, development studies, modern Asian studies, Chinese, communication and new media, integrated marketing communication, English studies, creative writing, language studies, housing studies, public policy and management, China studies, applied psychology, applied sociology, counselling, psychology of education and social work. In all, there are nearly 3,500 undergraduate students, nearly 1,900 MA/MSocSc students and 200 PhD/MPhil students in CLASS. Many of our professors worked at top universities in Australia, the UK, and the US before they joined CLASS.
