Cannot login the CityU Intranet using Firefox

Users of Firefox 14 who try to log in the CityU Intranet via the CityU Central Logon Page may be repeatedly prompted for CityU EID and password as if an incorrect username/password is entered. The problem is caused by the caching mechanism of Firefox 14 which redirects users back to the CityU Central Logon Page even though a valid pair of CityU EID and password have been entered. Suggested workarounds are:

  1. Use browsers other than Firefox, such as IE, Chrome, and Safari; or
  2. Disable the Firefox caching by the following steps (for advanced users only):
[Remark: After disabling the caching, the page loading performance of Firefox maybe degraded as Firefox will always download the most up-to-date version from web servers.]
    1. Enter "about:config" in the address bar.
      Firefox address bar
    2. The following warning message will be displayed.
      Firefox Config Warning Message
    3. Click the "I'll be careful, I promise!" button.
    4. Enter "browser.cache" in the search box.
      Firefox search box
    5. Locate "browser.cache.disk.enable" and "browser.cache.memory.enable" entries.
      Firefox cache enabled
    6. Double-click one by one the two entries in order to change their values to "false".
      Firefox cache disabled
    7. Restart Firefox and visit the protected page again. The Logon issue should be fixed.
