Dr. Andy Chun, CIO, City University of Hong Kong

Dr. Andy Chun was appointed the Chief Information Officer (CIO) in October 2009. As CIO, Dr. Chun is responsible for all aspects of the University’s ICT infrastructure, service and strategy to support teaching, learning, research, outreach and administrative operations. He oversees the University’s information management services from data collection, maintenance, management, distribution and analysis to support the University’s strategic directions and planning. Dr. Chun is the line manager for CityU's Computing Services Centre and the Enterprise Solutions Office.

Dr. Chun joined the University in 1994. Prior to his appointment as CIO, Dr. Chun was an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science where he also served as the Programme Leader for their B.Sc. Computer Science Programme and the Subject Group Leader for the Software Engineering Group.

Dr. Chun has over two decades of experience in higher education, IT research and development, and management. His work on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for enterprise optimization has been honored with numerous ICT awards, including five Innovative Applications of Artificial Intelligence (IAAI) Awards from the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), the Asia-Pacific ICT Award (APICTA), and the IT Excellence Award from the Hong Kong Computer Society. In 2009, the Hong Kong Computer Society further honored Dr. Chun with two Outstanding IT Achiever Awards (OITAA) – for research and IT professional excellence.

Dr. Chun holds a B.Sc. from the Illinois Institute of Technology and an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
