This programme is accredited by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications to reach HKQF level 5, which is equivalent to the standing of bachelor’s degrees offered by local universities in Hong Kong. The degree qualification is formally recognised by the Government for employment purposes within the Civil Service.

 

This is an exempted programme under the Non-local Higher and Professional Education (Regulation) Ordinance in Hong Kong. It is a matter of discretion for individual employers to recognise any qualifications to which these programmes may lead.

UOW recognizes the fast pace of development in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry. UOW was one of the first universities to combine fields of study related to this industry into one faculty. Wollongong is now one of the largest sites for ICT research in the southern hemisphere. Leading global companies such as Motorola, IBM, Telstra and Accenture have chosen to collaborate with the Faculty undertaking significant research projects. What will you learn?

UOW’s Bachelor of Computer Science focuses on the theoretical and practical approaches to computation and its applications that can be applied across a wide range of industries, including banking and finance, games design, data communication, and healthcare. Students graduating from the Bachelor of Computer Science will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the core knowledge of system development and the ability to apply the theoretical basis of computer science to solve a range of practical problems.
  • Design and develop innovative software solutions for a variety of applications.
  • Design, develop, and employ novel approaches and algorithms in solving practical problems.
  • Deploy appropriate theory, practices, and tools for the specification, design, implementation, and maintenance as well as the evaluation of computer-based systems.
  • Function effectively as part of a team to accomplish a set of common goals and objectives and communicate with project stake holders.
  • Adopt a professional and ethical approach to decision making and related social responsibilities.

Entry requirements

A recognized Associate Degree or Higher Diploma or equivalent qualification in related disciplines. Applicants from unrelated disciplines with a minimum GPA of 2.0/4.0 but with demonstrated foundation knowledge in computer science may also be considered. Admittance into the programme is at the sole discretion of UOW.

Qualified graduates from the following programmes can be admitted directly to Bachelor of Computer Science:

  • Higher Diploma in Software Engineering

Hong Kong Community College (HKCC)

Caritas Institute of Higher Education

  • Higher Diploma in Computing Studies

Admission is not limited to graduates from the above programmes. Applicants from other programmes will be assessed individually.

Programme structure

All students are required to complete ten (10) subjects worth six (6) credit points each, plus one (1) project, worth twelve (12) credit points to be awarded the Bachelor of Computer Science
