Associate of Arts in Translation and Interpretation
PROGRAMME AIMS
Upon successful completion of this programme, students will be able to:
- Serve as competent and confident communicators in and between Chinese (written Chinese, Cantonese and Putonghua) and English at the associate professional level or as bachelor degree students with advanced standing;
- Demonstrate abilities in translation and interpretation for the purpose of further studies and employment as para-professionals;
- Demonstrate their enhanced knowledge of Chinese and English for effective cross-cultural communication;
- Demonstrate their enhanced general knowledge of society, culture and current affairs for effective cross-cultural communication;
- Demonstrate strong generic skills in interpersonal communication, analysis, criticism and documentation, both individually and as part of a team;
- Relate the major ideas in arts and humanities, science and technology to their own area of study.
FURTHER STUDIES AND CAREER PROSPECTS
- Articulation routes to local and overseas universities offer students the possibility of obtaining a first degree such as Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Translation and Interpretation at City University of Hong Kong, BA (Hons) English for International Corporate Communication (University of Central Lancashire, through CityU SCOPE) and Bachelor of Arts (Honours) English and Communication Studies, University of Portsmouth, etc. For details, please refer to the iPASS of HKSAR at http://www.ipass.gov.hk/eng/ .
- You can work in business, tourism, the legal profession, the media, advertising, journalism, publishing, public relations, education, charity organizations, and more.
- You can work wherever good trilingual communication skills and cross-cultural understanding are required.

PROGRAMME SPECIFIC ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
English Language Requirement:
- D or above in HKALE AS Use of English/ AL English Literature; or
- D or above in HKCEE English Language (Syl. B)/ Level 3 or above in English Language; or
- Level 3 or above in HKDSE English Language or Literature in English
Chinese Language Requirement:
- D or above in HKALE AS Chinese Language and Culture; or
- D or above in HKCEE Chinese Language/ Level 3 or above in Chinese Language; or
- Level 3 or above in HKDSE Chinese Language or Chinese Literature
